Shantaram

Henrik's closing remark

“First of all, this was the longest book i've ever read but also one of the best. The parts where Lin was living in the slum were the ones I enjoyed the most and the mafia wars in the end I found quite boring. And Karla, their relationship was a great thread that ran throughout the story. It took me almost 6 months to finish which says something about how much spare time you have as an entrepreneur.”

I just finished Shantaram couple of weeks back and loved it :) I have been to Mumbai a couple of times but am itching to be there again and see it in new light!

:) It was amazing. India is by far the most livley and exiting country I've ever traveld to. You must go there and especially to Mumbai, Colaba area, it's much smaller then you can imagine, you can walk round most of the places the Lin is describing. It made it feel so much more real.

This is the one book you must read! It's an adventure beyond your fantasy. I absolutley loved it.
I read it during my travel in India spring 2011. I realised during my reading that I was staying in the same house/hostel as the main charachter did in Mumbai.. That was a great moment and the staff showed me his room at India Guest House.
I strolled down Collaba Causeway, visited Leopolds, saw the slums, spent time at India Gate and visited the Taj Hotel.. What a story. To bad it's not becoming a movie..

The page numbering was off (e-books!!) so I still have a few pages to go. It's a bit too long :|

I'm loving the slum-parts where I'm at right now. A great way of escaping a cold and icy Stockholm

started reading it on the plane to India and it was a great way to get even more excited about the country. Half way through I got kind of fed up with his self glorification, but all in all - reading 50% was definitely worth it!
